In order to explain my goals as a veterinarian, I feel that I should take a moment to share how much I appreciate the life this career has allowed me to lead.
As the daughter of two veterinarians in a family-run practice, I can't imagine my life any other way. I can't tell you how many time I studied flashcards in the seat of a vet truck while a cow gave birth a few feet away or how many times my slumber parties included a sick goat in the basement. My mom often jokes that she whispered "Engineering" in my ears while I slept to help me find a life outside the grueling, hectic and modest living that veterinary medicine provides but I have never even briefly thought of another career.
Every experience I have drives me to work harder and learn more and I am more addicted than ever! Being a vet is not just a job for me, but rather a way of life. Every morning I feed my own horses, sometimes sneak in a ride if I'm lucky and then head off to a day filled with people I have come to call friends while doing a job I love. In addition to my "day job" of being a vet, I train all my own horses, giving a few riding lessons on the side and also shoe all my own horses. I do not claim to be a trainer or farrier but can definitely appreciate these pertinent roles in the care and maintenance of every horse!
My goal is to take care of your animals as if they were my own by providing preventative healthcare at affordable prices. I also make an extra effort to make sure you understand what I am doing to your animal and why. Although I'm always here if you have a question, I like the feeling of leaving a farm, not only knowing that the animals have been well cared for but that the owner understands more about their pet's care than when I arrived. As a veterinarian, I have met some of the most amazing people and am lucky enough to call many of you my friends, and not just clients. Your kind words and notes mean so much to me and I can't wait to get to know all of you better in the years to come. I have no plans of expanding my practice, but rather hope to be the familiar face you can always expect when you need a helping hand.
I am lucky enough to be married to my best friend, Dustin, and he and my two beautiful step-daughters, Emory and Masyn, share a love of farm life and horses. In August of 2024 June Flippin was born and many of you have already met this "vet baby" on the road! It has been a dream come true to see my family grow and thrive in farm life and I look forward to many years of working alongside them as my business is a part of me just like they are.
All my best,
Dr. Carmen
